Tooth Extractions in Shrewsbury

At Shrewsbury Dental Associates, we always aim to preserve your natural teeth whenever possible. When an extraction is the best option for protecting your oral health, Dr.Kaplan and Dr.Krishnan provide safe, comfortable care right here in our Shrewsbury office.

Why May I Need a Tooth Extraction?

Extractions are typically performed when there's no other way to save a tooth, or when keeping a problem tooth in place could lead to complications such as shifting, infection, or damage to surrounding teeth.

Common reasons for an extraction include:
     • Impacted wisdom teeth
     • Loose or severely decayed teeth
     • Teeth cracked or broken below the gum line
     • Stubborn baby teeth that haven't fallen out on their own
     • A desire to avoid more extensive treatment down the road

Leaving a problem tooth untreated can often lead to bigger issues, including infection or abscess, so having an extraction done promptly is beneficial.

What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction

Before any extraction, Dr. Kaplan or Dr. Krishnan will examine your tooth and take X-rays as needed to determine whether an extraction is the right course of action. If an extraction is needed, we'll then discuss anesthetic and sedation options to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

Once you're ready, the tooth is gently loosened and removed, and sutures are placed if needed to help the gums heal. You'll bite down on gauze to control bleeding, and if sedation was used, you'll have time to recover comfortably in our office before heading home. We'll send you off with clear aftercare instructions to support a smooth healing process.
